Dental implants at PlusTerveys
We will first carry out an assessment to determine whether implants are suitable for you. The process begins with a general review of the mouth that looks at your gums, teeth, mucous membranes and at how well your jaw joint and jaw muscles are working. Implants cannot be provided until any issues in the mouth have been addressed. When your mouth is healthy, we can proceed with the implants. We will first make a plaster cast of your teeth and take x-ray images of your mouth. If you do not have enough jawbone to support the implants, we can rebuild it with a graft. The graft can come from elsewhere in your own body or we can use artificial bone material. Implants are fitted into your mouth by drilling a threaded hole and then screwing the implant into place. The fitting is carried out by a dental surgeon or a dentist specialising in implants. The implants will be left to fuse for a few months and then a metal abutment is attached. A month later, the actual artificial tooth will be attached to the implant.
Can anyone have dental implants?
Dental implants are suitable for most adults. They are not recommended for children and young people because the underlying bones will continue to grow until the age of 18–22. Smoking and certain medical conditions may make it difficult for the implant to fuse or make it difficult for the implant to be fitted. You can talk to your dentist to find out more. Please note that any inflammation must be treated before you can go ahead with the implant process.
