The PerioSafe test works quickly to tell you whether you have an invisible and asymptomatic infection in your mouth.
PerioSafe is a saliva-based enzyme test for finding out important information about your gums and teeth. The test takes just 10 minutes. It will reveal if you suffer from gingivitis or periodontitis even if you are not suffering from any symptoms. The test uses the latest Finnish scientific evidence on oral enzymes and immune responses that cannot be detected by the naked eye during a routine dental check-up.
PerioSafe testing is available at a number of PlusTerveys dental clinics. We use the latest digital version which gives us numerical results on the health of your mouth. Some of our clinics continue to use the PerioSafe sticks that will give a more general response to whether infection and inflammation are present in your mouth.
Based on your results, we will draw up a personalised care plan for you, which can be used to prevent the effects of gum disease before it is visible to the naked eye or has an impact on your health.
The PerioSafe test is an excellent way to create a snapshot of the state of your oral health and should always be carried out in consultation with a dentist or dental hygienist.
Why is this test necessary?
We know that infections inside the mouth can remain asymptomatic for a long time and even low-grade infections can have an impact on your:
- general health
- diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis and cardiovascular treatment
- fertility
- physical and mental performance
- development of gum disease
You will be asked to not eat, chew gum, brush your teeth or use mouthwash for 30 minutes before the test.
